Due to recent changes on the Shopify platform, we can no longer automatically add tracking scripts to your store.

To use Dotdigital product notifications, such as back-in-stock alerts, you need to enable tracking in your Shopify theme manually. The method depends on which type of theme you're using.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

What you need to do

If you're using a modern theme (2.0 or later)

Enable the Dotdigital app embed in the Shopify Theme Editor.

If you're using a vintage theme (pre-2.0)

You need to manually add the Dotdigital tracking script to your theme's code.

Learn more in Using a vintage theme.

Existing product notification configurations continue to work

If you created back-in-stock alerts or other product notifications before this change, they continue to work on vintage themes without any action. You only need to add the tracking script manually if you're creating new product notifications.

How do I know which theme I'm using?

Not sure if you have a modern or vintage theme?

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.

  2. Find your current theme and check the version information.

Themes created or updated after 2021 are typically modern 2.0 themes. If you're still unsure, contact Dotdigital support.

What happens if I don't enable tracking?

New product notifications, including back-in-stock alerts, won't work in your Shopify store until you enable tracking.

Existing product notification configurations continue to work as before. Other Dotdigital features are not affected.
