Test send an email campaign


Test sends are an essential part of verifying your campaign. This is so that you can check how your email will appear in your own inbox, as well as allowing you to share it with colleagues for proofreading and sanity checking ahead of a full send.

If possible, try to add different ISP and email providers to your test address book such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, and so on.

Test sends are free. The test send function can only be used for testing your campaign – not for actually sending it.

Using the Test send function

The test send function is initiated by selecting Test send – visible in various places within the system.

One of them is in the main EasyEditor toolbar.

It can also be accessed by selecting Step 3 (Test), in the top right-hand corner where the five campaign creation steps are positioned.

Select Choose contacts in the Send to your test contacts section. 

The Test send side panel slides in, where you'll first be asked to select whether you want to send both HTML and plain text versions, or the HTML version only, or the plain text version only.

To add a new email address to your Test address book, select New test address, fill in the details requested in the New test address side panel and select Create.


Please note: you can't add suppressed contacts to your test address book. If you see the 'Errors found' message when trying to add a new address, this is likely to be the reason why.

Select Select test address to choose contacts to send to (hold Ctrl to select multiple addresses). You can also search for them by their email address and name.select-test-address.png

Once you've made your selections, select Test send to confirm the send.

After sending, you can check the mailboxes for the email addresses you selected, and verify that your campaign is displayed as intended.

Test send limits

There are some limitations and restrictions when it comes to test sends.

  • A maximum of 200 email addresses are allowed in your test address book
  • A maximum of 500 test sends are allowed in an hourly period
  • Tracking isn't enabled for test sends 
  • A placeholder is displayed if your campaign contains external dynamic content


Enhanced testing

We offer an inbox and spam filter test (a charged service), which allows you to see how your campaign will look in different email clients, and whether your campaign would pass or fail various spam filters.
