Once you have completed the steps to customise page layouts in Salesforce following the installation of the connector package, there are a number of changes to the standard Contact and Lead pages.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • Because Leads and Contacts have separate fields in Salesforce, the field mappings used to populate contact data fields in linked Dotdigital lists must also be configured separately.

Learn more in the section Field mapping.

Changes to Contact and Lead pages

Contact and Lead pages have additional fields added which display data relating to email campaigns that the contact has been been sent or engaged with. They also display two new buttons.

Added fields

Email opt-out

If the standard Salesforce Email Opt Out field is required for Contacts and Leads (which prevents Salesforce from emailing individual contacts), then it needs to be enabled by a system administrator.

Learn more in the section Salesforce Email Opt Out.

Email Campaigns

Displays the number of times the contact has opened and viewed campaign content.

Email Clicks

Displays data related to what content was clicked and when.

Email ROI

Displays purchase data for a contact who has placed an order on your website after clicking through from an email campaign.

Email Page Views

Displays which website pages a contact has visited after clicking through from an email campaign. Web Behaviour Tracking data is also displayed in this section.

Email Social Bookmarks

Displays details of email campaign shares, and which networks it was viewed on.

Form Responses

Displays form responses, if these are being synchronised.

Suppressions

Displays which Dotdigital account the suppression originated from, the reason for suppression, and the date of suppression.

If you have set up the sync of Opt-in type, this will display under Details on the Contact or Lead page.

Opt-in type field sync

To be able to sync opt-in type for your contacts, leads and person accounts, you need Dotdigital for Salesforce v2.41 or above.

By default, the sync setting for Opt-in type is set to manual only. You must configure automatic syncs for each of your Dotdigital accounts.

Learn more in the section Synchronisation schedule.

Opt-in type is mapped to any contact or lead record matching a Dotdigital contact by email address. After the initial sync is complete, the field is populated with the opt-in type for these contacts.

If you decide to sync opt-in type for more than one Dotdigital account, leads' and contacts' opt-in types might be overwritten by the most recently synced account's value. However, values are only updated by a higher opt-in type following this hierarchy:

If a contact is Verified double in one of your accounts and Unknown in a second account, the contact remains Verified double even after the sync of the second account completes.

Added buttons

Two buttons are also added to Contact and Lead pages.

  • Engagement Timeline

  • Add to Automation Program

Engagement Timeline

To see a graphical representation of a contact or lead’s interactions and engagement with your campaigns, forms and website over time, select Engagement Timeline.

The left-hand summary panel displays name, email address and overall engagement statistics.
It also gives details of the first and last occurrences of the different types of interactions.

The timeline panel displays the selected behavioural data. Select a data type icon to add this data to the timeline. To view more specific details of each engagement event, select view details.

Add to Automation Program

To directly add a contact or lead to one or more Dotdigital programs:

  1. Select Add to Automation Program.

  2. Expand the Select account drop-down menu to choose which Dotdigital account you want to see programs for.

  3. Select the checkbox for the programs you want to enrol on.

Only active programs can be selected.

  4. Select Add contact to programs.

If the contact or lead has yet to be synchronised, they are added to your Dotdigital Contacts master list as part of the program enrolment process.
