Microsoft Dynamics - Install the connector for Dotdigital

Learn how to install the Dotdigital connector for Microsoft Dynamics.

Overview

The connector is installed in two parts:

  1. The managed solution is installed
  2. The connected Dotdigital accounts are provisioned in Microsoft Dynamics.

In the onboarding form that we provide to you, you can choose one of two options:

  • Option 1 - Install the connector yourself
  • Option 2 - Have us install the connector on your behalf

To learn more about the onboarding form that you need to complete, check out the article Complete your Microsoft Dynamics connectivity form.

Option 1 - Customer/consultant conducts installation, Dotdigital conducts provisioning

The form gives you access to the managed solution package (called dotmailerCRMConnector), your CRM Administrator can install the solution at any time.

The Connector Service Account on the onboarding form is used to confirm remote connectivity and then used to get the current CRM metadata. During the provisioning, we give this account the role of Email Campaign Connector Service (System Use only).

After the managed solution is installed, and connectivity checked, the form must submitted. Then the following steps are carried out:

  • Connected Dotdigital email accounts are provisioned.
  • Set-up of default synchronisation settings and data mapping
  • Initial tests are conducted.
  • Technical onboarding call is provided.

Option 2 - Dotdigital conducts installation and provisioning

Before we can install the connector, you must give us temporary access to a Microsoft Dynamics account that has administrator/customisation access. This account is used as a Connector Service Account to get the current CRM metadata and existing customisations and to confirm remote connectivity.

After we have access to the Connector Service Account, we remotely install the managed solution, and provision the Dotdigital email accounts. This work is carried out by our Technical Support team, and includes the following steps:

  • The managed solution package (called dotmailerCRMConnector) is imported. Changes include new entity metadata, new security roles, new forms, configuration data and changes to the site map to allow for access to the new Email Campaign information, which is added to the Marketing section.
