WhatsApp imposes messaging limits to ensure quality interactions and prevent spam. These limits are crucial for businesses to understand and manage effectively.

Initial limits and warm-up period

When you start using WhatsApp for business, you cannot send messages to large audiences immediately.

Once your Business Portfolio is verified, your WhatsApp account starts with a default limit of 1,000 messages per day. This limit can only be increased gradually by consistently sending high-quality messages.

To increase the messaging limit, you must initiate business conversations that recipients actually open.

Recipients must have opened a number of your business-initiated conversations, equal to at least half of your current messaging limit, over the previous 7-day period. For example, if your current limit is 1,000 messages per day, recipients must have opened at least 500 of your business-initiated conversations.

Key points to remember

  • Daily limit exceeded

If you exceed your daily messaging limit, your messages will not be delivered, and you will not be charged.

  • Avoid over-sending

Even though undelivered messages are not charged, it is important not to continue sending messages once the limit is reached.

  • Check limits

You can monitor your daily messaging limits in WhatsApp Manager under the Phone Numbers section.
