Updating your version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM?

If you're running the Engagement Cloud for Microsoft Dynamics CRM connector and are planning to upgrade to a newer version of Dynamics CRM, please get in touch with your account manager. Your account manager can advise you on the proper connector upgrade process and prevent any potential issues. The connector supports versions 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and Dynamics 365 (5.x to 9.x).

The actions that need to be completed by Engagement Cloud connector team depend on how the CRM upgrade is being performed. Not every Dynamics upgrade is the same. However, we have listed two common scenarios that we see frequently.

Existing System/Instance
If it's an existing instance of Dynamics CRM and the Org is already connected to an Engagement Cloud account, you'll need to update the current verification form. You'll want to review all the options that have been previously submitted and update them as needed.

Verification Form

  • CRM Settings 
  • Connector Service Account 

Package

A new package might be required.  This depends on which version you are upgrading from and to.

Items to Consider

  • If a new package is required, does it need to be installed and tested on a Sandbox before Production?
  • Do you have an existing Engagement Cloud Sandbox account? Is one needed?
  • Plan an appropriate amount of time for any testing required.
  • Your 'Go Live' date.

New System/Instance
If it's a new instance of Dynamics CRM and the Org is NOT connected to an Engagement Cloud account, then a new sign-up form needs to be submitted. The standard provisioning and configuration process will need to be performed for each environment this upgrade is performed on.

  • Contacts (Technical and Business)
  • Installation Requirements 
  • CRM Settings 
  • Connector Service Account 

Items to Consider

  • When will the old instance be disconnected?
  • The new instance 'Go Live' date. 
  • Which environments this needs to be performed on.  
  • Do you have an existing Engagement Cloud Sandbox account? Is one needed?
  • Plan an appropriate amount of time for the installation, configuration and testing to be completed.

If you are updating from version 8.x to a more current version (9.x) no action is needed.
