Assign an SMS number to a chat team

To use two-way SMS, each of your chat teams needs a dedicated number.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • Your Dotdigital account must have SMS enabled.

  • For each chat team you set up, you must have a dedicated numeric sender ID. Alphanumeric sender IDs and shared short codes are not supported for two-way SMS.

  • Numbers can’t be shared by more than one team.

  • If you only have one number in your account that can be used for two-way SMS, we automatically assign this to the default chat team.


Assign a number to a team

  1. Expand the User menu and go to Settings > Chat > Chat settings.

  2. Select the team tab you want to assign a number to.

  3. Under SMS, expand the SMS number drop-down menu and select the number you want to assign.

  4. Select SAVE at the bottom of the page.

Reassigning a number

If you assign a number to a team that was previously in use by another team, the chats associated with that number remain with the original team, and can be viewed in the original team’s inbox.

If you need to continue a chat, you must transfer the chat to the team which now has the number assigned.
