For configurable products, recommending variants (such as sizes or colours) can lead to poor recommendations. Instead, recommend the configurable parent. Our ecommerce connectors use the parent ID of variants to identify the parent for your recommendations.

To use Variant handling, you must update to the latest version of the Dotdigital commerce connectors.
Set up Variant handling
Go to Content > Products > Catalogs.
Select the Properties icon for the catalog you want to work with.
The Edit insight properties panel appears.Go to the Product recommendations settings area.
Select Select beside the Recommendation rules filed.
The Edit store rules panel appears.Go to the Group products by the selected fields: block.
Select Recommend group ‘url’; the Variant rules panel appears.
Select Recommend parents in the Variant handling area.
Select APPLY.
You can also group products by a specific field, such as SKU, product name, or URL. To change the grouping field, modify the field next to Group products by.
