By integrating WhatsApp with your Dotdigital account you can:

  • Reach a large audience of over 2 billion users worldwide.

  • Enhance customer engagement with personalised and automated messaging.

  • Boost brand visibility through a verified WhatsApp Business Account.


Connect WhatsApp to Dotdigital

The steps you take here depend on whether you already have a WhatsApp Business Account or need to create a new WhatsApp Business Account.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • You must have an SMS number that can receive One-Time Password (OTP) messages from Meta.

  • Your Dotdigital account must have SMS Pay as you go. Learn more.

  • You must have a Facebook profile.

  • Only automated replies to WhatsApp messages are currently supported.


Create a new WhatsApp Business Account

1. Fill in your business information

  1. In Dotdigital, expand the User menu, then go to Settings > WhatsApp > Manage connection.

  2. Select CONNECT WHATSAPP. You might need to log in to Facebook at this point.

  3. In the Facebook popover, for Business portfolio, expand the Business portfolio drop-down menu, then select Create a business portfolio.

  4. Enter the requested business details, then select Next.

2. Create a business WhatsApp profile

This is the information that shows to people on WhatsApp.

  1. For WhatsApp Business Account Name, enter the name of your Business Account.

  2. For WhatsApp Business display name, enter the the display name for your business. This should match your business name and adhere to WhatsApp Business display name guidelines.

  3. Expand the Udrop-down menu, then choose the category that best describes your business.

  4. Enter any other requested details, then select Next.

3. Add a phone number for WhatsApp

In this step you verify a phone number for your WhatsApp Business Account. You can use your Facebook number, a new one, or migrate from WhatsApp Messenger or Business App.

  1. For Phone number, expand the region drop-down menu, and choose the region of the phone number you want to use for WhatsApp.

  2. Enter the rest of the phone number.

  3. For Choose how you would like to verify your number, select the verification method you want to use to verify your phone number. Options: Text message or Phone call.

  4. Select Next.

  5. Once you receive the verification code, enter the six-digit verification code into the box.

  6. Select Next.

4. Review permissions and complete connection

  1. Read and review the permissions related to this connection.

  2. If you want to proceed, select Save.

When the integration is successfully complete, you see your WhatsApp account details in Dotdigital.

Verify your WhatsApp Business Account

You must verify your WhatsApp Business Account within 30 days to avoid deactivation. Unverified accounts have limited messaging capabilities. Verification can take up to 30 days, and Dotdigital is not responsible for this process.

Connect an existing WhatsApp Business Account

  1. In Dotdigital, expand the User menu, then go to Settings > WhatsApp > Manage connection.

  2. Select Connect WhatsApp. You might need to log in to Facebook at this point.

  3. On Fill in your business information, expand the Business portfolio drop-down menu, then choose the account you want to use.

  4. Expand the Create or select a WhatsApp Business Profile drop-down menu, then choose the WhatsApp Business profile you want to use.

  5. Select Next.

  6. Read and review the permissions related to this connection. If you want to proceed, select Save.

  7. When the integration is successfully complete, you see your WhatsApp account details in Dotdigital.

Verify your WhatsApp Business Account

If you’re asked to verify your WhatsApp Business Account, you must do so within 30 days to avoid deactivation. Unverified accounts have limited messaging capabilities. Verification can take up to 30 days, and Dotdigital is not responsible for this process.
