The Shopify Customer Privacy API is a browser-based JavaScript API that helps you to deliver cookies based on your visitor's consent. You can find this API in all Shopify stores. With this API, you can create consent collection features, such as banners, as part of your store's compliance with applicable privacy regulations.

Learn more in the Shopify article Customer Privacy API.

We've integrated Dotdigital with the Shopify Customer Privacy API, guaranteeing adherence to your Shopify account's chosen Customer Privacy Settings. These settings ensure that we use cookies for data collection and storage, of your online store visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland, in a way that meets your preferences.

How this affects your Dotdigital account

Rest assured that we'll comply with your chosen Customer Privacy Settings in Shopify. We only track onsite events for visitors to your Shopify store in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland after they have given their consent. By doing this, we can ensure that your store's data collection and storage practices align with your visitors' preferences.

As a result, you'll most likely see a decrease in the number of onsite events reported in your Dotdigital account for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland. If your visitor hasn't provided consent, we can no longer track them for any features requiring tracking, such as abandoned browse, cart, and some types of product recommendations.

Your privacy settings

You control your privacy settings in Shopify, and we respect and follow the privacy settings you have chosen for your store. To review or adjust these settings:

In the Shopify admin, go to Sales Channel > Online Store > Preferences > Customer privacy.

The Customer privacy page gives you full control over how your visitors' data is collected and stored, allowing you to align your store's privacy practices with any privacy regulations and your own preferences.
