Introduction to Zapier


Zapier allows you to connect your Engagement Cloud account to your other favourite apps and tools, such as Google Sheets, Eventbrite, PayPal and Slack.

These connections are made by creating Zaps, which are automations that include triggers and actions.

Triggers start the Zap, and actions end the Zap by making something happen as a result of the trigger.

Why use Zapier?

Zapier allows you to automate manual tasks without all that tedious data entry. For example, let’s say you want to pull data from an Engagement Cloud survey and place it into Google Calendar. Instead of entering all that data manually, Zapier will do the heavy lifting for you and automate it.

Connecting Engagement Cloud to other apps will save you mountains of time so you can focus on more important things.

Getting started with Zappier

  1. Connect your Engagement Cloud account
  2. Set up triggers or actions for your new Engagement Cloud Zap.

    Are you plainning any integration with eventbrite?

    Hi. Thanks for your question. There are no plans currently, although there's a request for one in our community forum here - Please add your support to it though so it's more likely to be considered, and let us know there what you'd ideally be looking to do with it.

    In the meantime, and as that thread points out, there is an Eventbrite integration (offered via Zapier) available in our App Directory which might be worth your while trying out -

    The only dotmailer trigger available via Zapier is,
    "New Survey Response -
    Triggers when a survey of your choice receives a new response".

    Are there any time frames regarding additional triggers?
    When a new contact is added for example.

    You mention a trigger for when a new contact is added. Are there any others you're keen to see? I can then feed this back to the team.

    Just a quick update on this, as promised: we're currently working on usability improvements to our Zapier integration -, so watch this space!

    Whilst there's no current plan to add new triggers, we're keen to continue improving the integration, so we'd really appreciate any feature requests you'd like to make - Thanks.

    Just to echo the comments left above - survey responses being the only Zap trigger is incredibly limiting and frustrating. Our business would benefit from some Google Sheets > Dotmailer address book population via Zapier, for example. Are there any further updates to widening the Zapier integration?

    Hi Tom. Thanks for your feedback. I'm assuming you mean dotmailer contacts to Google Sheets population, as opposed to Google Sheets to dotmailer address books population (which you can already do if you followed this template but with Google Sheets instead - In which case, yes, this is definitely on our radar for further improvements.

    I can't believe that in 3 years there has been no more triggers added, although multiple customers are requesting this.

    Dotdigital needs to add more, lots more Zapier triggers! I can't believe that Dotdigital only has one trigger. For being a omnichannel 'Engagement' cloud you need to be integrated! I honestly couldn't believe what I saw when wanting to try-out Zapier with DD. But also one of your employees told me this would be the solution to add tasks to Salesforce, which it isn't... Because of the one trigger!

    Must haves triggers are:
    - Contact has reached X (end) node on program
    - Contact has opened X campaign
    - Contact datafield X has changed to X
    - Forced zapier node (like any other extension in the builder, being able to force actions from within the program).
    - New contact has been added
    - Contact has been updated
    - New contact in segment
    - New contact in adressbook

    You then should be able to send some information with the Zap based on the journey a person has taken.
