Creating a Marketing List
Engagement Cloud address book

Summary

New contacts that enter Engagement Cloud can be synchronised back to Dynamics during the next scheduled synchronisation. This keeps both platforms accurate and up to date for your sales and marketing teams.

To accomplish this, there are a few steps that need to be taken in order for synchronisation to complete properly.

Creating a Marketing List

First, before contacts are created in Engagement Cloud, a Marketing List must exist in Dynamics and be synchronised to Engagement Cloud. This is necessary as it allows us to target the Engagement Cloud address book and populate these with contacts that have been created or signed up.

Currently, the connector doesn't create Marketing Lists from Engagement Cloud address books. If the Marketing List doesn't exist in Dynamics first, synchronisation from Engagement Cloud to Dynamics fails.

When creating the Marketing List, it should have one of the following membership actions selected:

  • Allow Known Contacts or create new Contacts if no match found – This option is only available if the Marketing List Type is made up of Contacts. Any contacts in the address book that aren't in the Marketing List will create a Contact in Dynamics during synchronisation.
  • Allow Known Leads or create new Leads if no match found – This option is only available if the Marketing List Type is made up of Leads. Any contacts in the address book that aren't in the Marketing List will create a Lead in Dynamics during synchronisation.

By choosing these membership actions, those contacts/leads that don't exist within Dynamics will be created when the Marketing Lists next syncs.

If you haven't previously built a Marketing List in Dynamics, please review the Marketing List article for detailed instructions.

Engagement Cloud address book

After the Marketing List has been synchronised with the proper membership actions, an address book with the same name will exist in Engagement Cloud. New contacts who are created within this address book will be synchronised back to Dynamics.

If you have existing signup forms or surveys which are creating contacts and would like these contacts to be synchronised to Dynamics, update their settings so contacts are placed into the new address book.

Is there anyway to link it also to the Campaign Entity within Dynamics? When adding leads into Dynamics we also tag it to a Dynamics created campaigns which allows us to track  campaign success

Hi Ben. Thanks for your question. Engagement Cloud contacts that are created as leads or contacts within Dynamics CRM can't be linked to a campaign as we don't provide a membership action for the campaign entity.
