Understanding how contacts interact with your WhatsApp campaigns is important for optimising your communication strategy. You can gain valuable insights into which messages and placements drive the most engagement by using trackable links.

Add link tracking to WhatsApp messages

  1. In Dotdigital, expand the User menu, then go to Settings > Tracking > Shortened links.

  2. Copy the link address you want to use. You can choose from default links, such as dd1.io, or use your own custom-branded domain.

  3. In Meta Business Portfolio, go to WhatsApp Manager > Manage templates.

  4. When editing and adding a call to action to a template, expand the URL type drop-down menu and select Dynamic URL.

  5. For Website URL, paste the link address copied in the previous step into the field.

  6. For Add sample URL, in the variable sample field '{{1}}', enter a unique identifier, such as dotdigital. This is replaced with the specific contact ID, enabling accurate click attribution to the correct user.

When creating a campaign that uses a template containing a trackable link, you can add the complete URL where you want to direct users. Our system automatically applies the dedicated tracking link to this destination URL.
