You can move your WhatsApp number to Dotdigital from the WhatsApp Business App or from another business solution provider.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • You need access to your current WhatsApp account to complete the migration.

  • Your phone number must be able to receive a verification code during setup.

  • Chat history doesn't transfer when you migrate. Export your conversations before you start, if you want to keep them.

  • Free phone numbers issued by WhatsApp can't be migrated.

  • You can only migrate numbers that have an approved display name.

Migrate from WhatsApp Business App

Moving from the WhatsApp Business App means switching to the WhatsApp Business API. This gives you access to Dotdigital's automation and campaign tools, but you lose access to the mobile app interface.

1. Export your chat history

Your chat history is deleted when you deactivate the WhatsApp Business App. Before you migrate, export your conversations if you need to keep them for your records.

2. Deactivate your WhatsApp Business App

You need to free up your phone number before connecting it to Dotdigital.

  1. Open the WhatsApp Business App on your mobile device.

  2. Go to Settings > Account > Delete my account.

  3. Enter your phone number and select Delete account.

3. Connect to Dotdigital

  1. In Dotdigital, go to Settings > WhatsApp > Manage connection.

  2. Select Connect.

  3. Follow the setup instructions:

    • Create a new WhatsApp Business Account or select an existing one.

    • Enter the phone number you want to migrate.

    • Use the same display name as your previous account.

    • Enter the verification code sent by SMS to your phone number.

Your WhatsApp account is now connected to Dotdigital.

Migrate from another Business Solution Provider

If you're switching from another WhatsApp integration platform, you can bring your existing account to Dotdigital. Your account settings, messaging limits, and approved templates stay with you.

What transfers with your account

  • Display name

  • Quality rating

  • Official Business Account status

  • Messaging limits

  • Approved message templates

Template quality ratings don't transfer

When you migrate, your templates keep their approved status, but quality ratings reset. You build new performance metrics as you send messages through Dotdigital.

1. Export your chat history

Your chat history is deleted when you deactivate the WhatsApp Business App. Before you migrate, export your conversations if you need to keep them for your records.

2. Disable two-factor authentication

Before you migrate, turn off two-factor authentication in your WhatsApp Business Account. If you have access to WhatsApp Manager, you can do this yourself.

  1. In Meta Business Suite, go to Business Settings.

  2. Under Accounts, select WhatsApp Accounts.

  3. Select your WhatsApp account.

  4. Go to WhatsApp Manager.

  5. Select your phone number.

  6. Go to Settings > Two-Step Verification.

  7. Select Turn off two-step verification.

  8. Check your email and select the link in the confirmation message to complete the process.

No access to WhatsApp Manager

If you don't have access to WhatsApp Manager, contact your current Business Solution Provider for help disabling two-factor authentication.

3. Connect to Dotdigital

  1. In Dotdigital, go to Settings > WhatsApp > Manage connection.

  2. Select Connect.

  3. Follow the setup instructions:

    • Select the Facebook Business Account you used with your previous provider.

    • Select your existing WhatsApp Business Account.

    • Enter the phone number you want to migrate.

    • Enter the verification code sent to your phone number.

Your WhatsApp account is now connected to Dotdigital.
