In the US, you're required to capture consent before sending transactional SMS messages. The capture transactional SMS consent setting adds a consent checkbox to your checkout when customers enter a US shipping number.
Before you start
Things you need to know:
This feature only applies to US mobile numbers.
The consent checkbox appears automatically at checkout when a US number is detected.
Customers who opt in can receive SMS updates for order confirmations, shipments, and credit memos.
Consult your legal team to ensure compliance with FCC, TCPA, and any other applicable regulations.
Set up transactional SMS consent
To start capturing transactional SMS consent for US customers:
In Adobe Commerce, go to Stores > Configuration.
Expand the Dotdigital menu, then select Transactional SMS.
Under Transactional SMS Consent (for sending to US numbers), expand the Enabled drop-down menu and select Yes.
In the Transactional SMS consent text field, enter the text that appears next to the checkbox at checkout.
This text also appears in Consent Insight for contacts who opt in.Optionally, in the Append opt-out text field, enter instructions for customers to opt out of future messages.
Default text: Reply with STOP to opt out. This text is added to the end of each transactional SMS message you send. Check with your legal team to confirm if this is required for your business. This adds characters to your SMS message, which might cost extra credits.Select SAVE CONFIG.
The consent checkbox now appears at checkout when customers enter a US phone number.
How consent works at checkout
When a customer enters a US phone number at checkout, the consent checkbox automatically appears. If they enter a number from another country, the checkbox is hidden.
Customers who opt in can receive transactional SMS messages for:
New order confirmations
Order updates
New shipments
Shipment updates
New credit memos
Customers must opt in for each order. If a customer opts out after placing an order, they no longer receive SMS updates.
View transactional SMS consent insight
You can view consent insight records for a customer by using the Single customer view:
Open the Single customer view for a contact.
Select the Insight data tab at the top of the page.
Expand the Insight data drop-down menu in the top left of the page and select ConsentInsight.
