Your From name, or your sender ID, is the name or number that appears on your contacts’ mobile device when they receive an SMS message from your organisation.

You can create, edit or delete alphanumeric From names directly in Dotdigital. If you have purchased another type of sender ID, such as a short code or virtual mobile number, you can set which of them you want to use as the default to send from.

Create an alphanumeric SMS From name

Alphanumeric From names must contain between 3 and 11 characters. They can be a mixture of letters and numbers, or can be entirely made of letters.

Alphanumeric From names can’t consist entirely of numbers.

  1. Expand the User menu and go to Settings > SMS > SMS From names.

  2. Select NEW FROM NAME.

  3. Enter a new From name.

  4. Select ADD FROM NAME.

There are some additional considerations for alphanumeric From names to send SMS in the UK.

Edit an alphanumeric From name

  1. Expand the User menu and go to Settings > SMS > SMS From names.

  2. Select the Edit icon for the From name you want to edit.

  3. In the Edit From name modal, enter the From name you want to use.

  4. Select SAVE.

Delete an alphanumeric From name

  1. Expand the User menu and go to Settings > SMS > SMS From names.

  2. Select the Delete icon for the From name you want to delete.

  3. In the Confirm delete modal, select DELETE.

Change your default SMS From name

Any alphanumeric From names you have created, as well as any inbound number options that you’ve purchased appear under SMS From names, and you can select which one you want to use as the default to send your SMS messages from.

  1. Expand the User menu and go to Settings > SMS > SMS From names.

  2. Select the Default radio button for the From name that you want to set as the default.
