The Engagement Timeline in Microsoft Dynamics gives you an overview of how engaged and responsive your Contacts and Leads are. A benefit of the Engagement Timeline is that it keeps the information in one location, meaning you don’t need to access Dotdigital separately to view it.

The Engagement Timeline displays:

  • Emails sent

  • Emails opened

  • Links clicked

  • Pages visited (if Site tracking/Web Behavior Tracking is in use)

  • ROI (if ROI tracking is in use)

  • Form responses (if Pages and forms are synced)

Learn more about form responses in Synchronise form responses to Microsoft Dynamics.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • The Engagement Timeline is not available in version 2011 of the Dotdigital for Microsoft Dynamics connector.

View the Engagement Timeline

  1. In Microsoft Dynamics, go to Contacts or Leads under Marketing in the ;eft side menu.

  2. Select the name of the Contact or Lead you want to view.

  3. Select Engagement Timeline.

Engagement Timeline not available?

If you are on a connector version greater than 2011 and the Engagement Timeline tab isn't available, you will need to check your Security Roles. Read access is required for Form, Form Answer, Form Question and Form Response. These are found under Custom Entities.

Use the Engagement Timeline

When you access the Engagement Timeline for a Contact or Lead, the default view displays campaign data such as sends and clicks.

You can use the icons at the top of the timeline to include or exclude different types of activity. For example, if you'd like to include page visits, select Page Visits.

To see more details for an activity on the timeline, expand the view details drop-down under the activity type. This provides more in-depth information such as the content of form responses, links clicked, or the URL visited.

Aggregate totals for emails sent, total clicks, unique opens, unique clicks, open rate, and click rate can be found on the left-hand side of the page.

Statistics not available or missing?

Check your campaign statistics synchronisation level. This needs to be set to Detailed (Basic plus individual tracking) to synchronise this level of detail.
