Don't worry, we can still support your migration. Contact your Customer Success representative to discuss your options.

Compatibility requirements

Before migrating from Magento 1 to Magento 2, review this topic to make sure your connector is compatible with the version of Magento you plan to use.

Connector Version

Magento version

All versions up to 4.2.0

Magento 2.1

4.3.0

Magento 2.2

Set up a sandbox Dotdigital account

To continue using your Magento 1 store while you get Magento 2 ready, you're going to need a sandbox Dotdigital account. Using a sandbox account allows you to avoid data contamination and test your new store in full.

Don't have a sandbox account?

Speak with your Customer Success representative to arrange one.

A sandbox Dotdigital account allows you to test transactional templates, make updates to External Dynamic Content, and try-out other features on your store without affecting your live environment.

Tasks we do for you

As part of the migration process, our support team do the following tasks for you:

  • Set up the connector for your staging and production environments.

  • Test syncs are working correctly for your:

    • Contact data – customers, guests, subscribers.

    • Insight data – orders and catalogs.

  • Enable transactional emails and confirm they relay using our SMTP server.

  • Check the abandoned cart process is working.

Tasks to do yourself

The following tasks you must take care of yourself:

  • Build and test your transactional email templates.

  • Map programs and automation – welcome, abandoned cart, and any others.

  • Update your campaign content – including external dynamic content.

Things to consider

  • Your Magento 2 go-live date. Make sure you plan enough time to finish the setup and testing of your store.

  • If the structure of your website is changing, or you are adding more sites to your Magento instance, you need to decide how you want them to connect to Dotdigital.

  • When you migrate to Magento 2, you must update any External Dynamic Content links that you use in automation and campaigns.

  • Before going live, make sure your old Magento 1 site and Dotdigital are no longer connected.

Next steps

Speak to your Customer Success representative. They can help you set up a sandbox account and make sure you're on the right path to a successful migration.

If you want to test or configure the Magento 2 connector yourself, you can follow the steps in our Magento 2 Configuration guide.
