Learn how to use EmailSim to generate sample reporting data for your email campaigns.
EmailSim (emailsim.io) is a simulated email opening and clicking service. This service helps you generate sample reporting data for testing and analysis of email campaigns.
Before you start
Things you need to know:
When testing bounces, there is no way to specify between Hard or Soft. The bounce simulation type is chosen randomly.
Reply simulation is random. There is no way to force this.
This service is provided on a fair-use basis. We ask you to test with a small number of sends.
How it works
To use EmailSim, simply send an email to any address that ends with @emailsim.io. Once EmailSim receives these emails, it randomly opens them, clicks on links, and occasionally replies.
This provides you with sample, simulated reporting data for your test email campaigns.
Here’s the reporting data EmailSim can simulate:
Open emails
Click links in emails
Reply to emails
Simulate various email clients and browsers
Geolocate activity
Hard or soft bounce emails
Use EmailSim to simulate reporting data
In the Dotdigital account where you want to simulate reporting data, add one or multiple test contacts with an emailsim.io email address.
Example:test1@emailsim.io
,test2@emailsim.io
.
We recommend adding your EmailSim test contacts to a list called ‘EmailSim contacts’ or similar so you can easily find them later. If you want to simulate bounces, add the word 'bounce' anywhere before the @ symbol of the email address. The email is then either a hard or soft bounce for that contact.
Example:test1-bounce@emailsim.io
.Create a test campaign.
Make sure you add some links if you want to simulate Clicks reporting data.
Send your campaign to your EmailSim list.
If you're sending from a demo account, ensure you have enough credits for your send.
Go to the report for this campaign to view your reporting data.
