About custom signals
When you have the Dotdigital Tag installed on your site, it’s possible to track custom events or browsing behaviours through signals.

You can have up to 200 different signal names, or types, and each can contain an unlimited number of records.
Each individual signal name that you use creates an Insight data collection in Dotdigital. This allows you to use this data in segments, programs, personalisation and more.
Example
Imagine you work for a travel company, and you want to track which destinations your site visitors are searching for.
You can have a signal name of Search destination
, and within the signal, send information such as the destination name and preferred date of departure that the user has entered into a web form.
View and use signal data in Dotdigital
There are many ways you can use signal data in Dotdigital to support and improve your marketing.
Single customer view
Events and behaviours that you track with signals are displayed on the Activity timeline on the Single customer view. This allows you to see an overview of behaviours for a particular contact over time.

Segments
You can include data from signals in your segment criteria to either include or exclude contacts.
To do this, select your signal name in the Insight data block of your segment. You can then select the fields specific to that signal and use them to build your segment rules.

Programs
In a similar way to using signal data in segments, you can also use this data in automated programs to control and customise user journeys.

You can use the Insight data created by your custom signal tracking to personalise campaigns using Liquid script.
