The connector allows you send automated messages to site visitors who have abandoned carts.
You can do this through either the abandoned cart email series, or, for a more omnichannel strategy, you can enrol these contacts into an abandoned cart program.
Before you start
Things you need to know:
If you only sync subscribed contacts to your account and then allow abandoned cart sends for non-subscribed contacts, this creates contacts in your account anyway, even if they aren't opted in. However, the contacts aren't added to a list in Dotdigital.
You must create the abandoned cart emails you want to send in Dotdigital before you set up the series.
Learn how in Create an abandoned cart email.
The abandoned cart email series
Each type of site visitor - customers and guests - can receive three different emails scheduled for different times, each with different email content.
You have two options which provide the ability to include the contents of visitors cart within the emails you send:
Use Dotdigital's Abandoned cart block
Drag-and-drop into a campaign in EasyEditor. The block uses the contact’s CartInsight data to populate the required information.
Use Dotdigital's external dynamic content
To find the external dynamic content URL for abandoned carts, go to Stores > Configuration > DOTDIGITAL > Dynamic Content > External Dynamic URL.
Every five minutes, our abandoned carts functionality analyses the quotes in the core quote table.
This feature only works if you’re using the default quote functionality.
Eligible quotes are those that:
are active
have at least one item
have an updated date within the configured time window
have an email address associated and:
that email address is subscribed in Magento
Unless Allow abandoned cart for non-subscribed contacts is set to Yes.
that email address is not excluded by any exclusion rules you have set up.
Example
Abandoned Cart 1 Send after is set to 15 minutes.
Abandoned cart sync runs at 12:00.
Scans the quote table for eligible quotes updated between 11:40 and 11:45.
You can set up to three emails to be automatically sent when a cart is abandoned, and you can create different emails for customers and guests. You can also configure different settings per website.
Enable abandoned cart emails
Go to Stores > Configuration > DOTDIGITAL > Abandoned Carts, and find the heading Customers Email Series.
For Abandoned Cart 1:
Expand the Enabled/Disabled drop-down menu and select Enable.
Expand the Send after drop-down menu and select the amount of time after a cart is abandoned before the email is sent.
Expand the Campaign to send drop-down menu and select your Dotdigital abandoned cart campaign.
If you want to enable additional abandoned cart email campaigns for customers, repeat the above for Abandoned Cart 2 and Abandoned Cart 3.
Optionally, to enable abandoned cart emails for guests, find the heading Guests Email Series and repeat the above steps.

A message appears to confirm that the settings have been saved. Your abandoned cart emails send as configured from this point.
Adjust the abandoned carts email limit

To adjust the abandoned carts email limit:
Go to Stores > Configuration > DOTDIGITAL > Configuration and find the heading Abandoned Carts.
Expand the Abandoned Cart Limit drop-down menu and choose the amount of time you want to elapse before another abandoned cart email is allowed to be sent to a contact.
Select Save Config in the top right.
A message appears to confirm that the settings have been saved. Your abandoned cart emails send accordingly.
Only send abandoned cart emails to newsletter subscribers
Go to Stores > Configuration > DOTDIGITAL > Configuration and find the heading Abandoned Carts.
Expand the Allow abandoned cart for non-subscribed contacts drop-down menu and select No.
Unsubscribed contacts are always excluded from sends.Select Save Config in the top right.
A message appears to confirm that the settings have been saved. Your abandoned cart emails send accordingly.
