The Map of openers report uses geo‑mapping to show where in the world the contacts opened your campaign. You can view hotspots on a map, select areas, and add the geographically selected contacts to a new list.
Use the Map of openers report
The report displays a heatmap of where your contacts opened your campaign. Locations are based on each contact’s IP address.
Why heatmap results can appear inaccurate
A location may appear skewed for several reasons:
A contact is using a VPN, so the VPN server’s IP is used instead of their physical location.
Contact's ISP has assigned a dynamic IP address, meaning the same contact may appear in different locations over time.
For example, an IP assigned to a device in London today may show as Edinburgh tomorrow.Spam filters and/or security software have clicked links or downloaded images in your campaign and the report recorded their IP instead of the contact’s.
Images displayed in the campaign are cached and served by a proxy, replacing the contact’s IP with the proxy server’s IP.
Postcode or zipcode data
Heatmap locations can also be based on a contact’s postcode or zipcode.
To display campaign opens by postcode/zipcode, select the data field from the Postcode Data label dropdown, then select OK to re-generate the heatmap.
