Export contacts

You can export contacts one at a time, in bulk, or from specific lists and automation programs.

Learn how to export contacts from different areas of your account and understand what to expect from each export file.


Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • Regulation compliance
    When a contact asks you for the information you hold on them, it's called a Subject Access Request (SAR). This export action helps you comply with this request.


    To fully comply, remember to separately export any information you may hold on a contact in other platform areas.

Required permissions

To use this feature, you must be an account owner or have the following user permission:

  • Contacts

  • Contact exporter

Export a single contact

  1. Go to Audience > Contacts.

  2. Find and select the contact you want to export.

  3. On the Single customer view, expand the CONTACT ACTIONS drop-down menu.

  4. Select Export this contact.

  5. Once the contact finishes exporting, select Download to download the contact zip file to your local computer.

  6. Unzip the folder to view the exported data.

The zip file contains a CSV file with all of the contact's information which is held in contact data fields. Any Insight data for the contact is contained in separate files in JSON format (one file per collection).

Individual contact exports are kept in the Exports area for 7 days.


Export all contacts

  1. Go to Audience > Contacts.

  2. Expand the EXPORT drop-down menu and select Export all.

  3. Select Download on the Exports screen. Your export is created in a CSV file, which may take time to complete. The Exports screen shows you who requested an export under the Requested by column.

Export all contacts in a specific list

  1. Go to Audience > Lists.

  2. Select the list you want to export.

  3. Expand the EXPORT drop-down menu and select Export all.

Download exports at a later date

If you don't download your exported contacts there and then, you can always do so later. Files are stored for 7 days from the date and time they are originally requested.

To do this:

  1. Expand the User menu and go to Settings > General > Exports.

  2. Find the file you want and select Download.

The file is downloaded to your local device.


Export contacts from a program

Before you start

  • Create an empty contact list to export the contacts from the program into.
    Go to Audience > Lists and create a new list.

  • If your program has more than one exit node, you must select which node to export contacts from.

You can export contacts who reach an exit node in your program.

  1. Go to Automation > Programs.

  2. Select the program you want to export contacts from.

  3. Select the Contacts icon in the bottom-right corner of the selected Exit program node.

  4. Select the contacts that exited the program from the drop-down menu, then select More actions > Add contacts to a new list.

  5. Select a list where you want to export the contacts, then select ADD CONTACTS.

  6. Go to Audience > Lists, find the new list, and export it as described in Export all contacts in a specific list.
