If you utilise Shopify Point of Sale (POS) hardware or software for in-person sales, you can import this sales data into Dotdigital, and use our segmentation tools to customise marketing and post-sales journeys for these customers.

You don’t need any additional configuration for this - if you make use of Shopify POS, and these sales are linked to the same Shopify account as your web store, then this sales data automatically syncs across to Dotdigital through our connector.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • To use Shopify POS data in Dotdigital, you must have connected your Shopify and Dotdigital accounts through our integration.
Learn more in Set up Shopify with Dotdigital.

  • POS order data can only be synced for contacts with at least one valid channel identifier.
Learn more in the section Channels.

Segment Shopify POS data

You can use the source value from the Insight data you import from Shopify into Dotdigital to identify contacts who have placed orders made through Shopify POS.

To create the segment:

  1. Go to Audience > Segments and create a new segment.
Learn more in Create a segment.

  2. In the segment builder, drag an Insight data block into the Include dropzone.

  3. Select the block, then expand the collection type drop-down menu at the top of the window and select your orders collection.

  4. For Contact filter, keep the rule The number of records is greater than or equal to 1.

  5. For Record filters, expand the drop-down menu and select source, and in the last field, enter the value pos.

  6. Select OKAY and then select GENERATE SEGMENT.

Additional ways to use Shopify POS data

Once you have identified those contacts who have made purchases through Shopify POS, there are a number of ways you can take advantage of this data:

  • Enrol these contacts into an automated program to send them on a customised post-purchase journey.

  • Send targeted campaigns with exclusive in-store discounts.

  • If you use Shopify POS at events or conventions, you could create a survey targeting those who purchased at the event to gather feedback.

  • Create a filter on the Retail dashboard to allow you to see specific metrics for Shopify POS orders. To do this, just create an order filter rule for orders where source is equal to pos.
Learn more in the section Add order filters.

  • You can also create a contact-based filter for the dashboard to filter based on contacts who have placed an in-person order, along with any other segment criteria you want.

Learn more in the section Add list and segment filters.
