Your contacts' data is one of your most important assets, so you want to be able to keep it up-to-date and accurate. If you need to update or edit an the data you hold for an individual contact, you can do this in the Single customer view.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • You cannot change the data type of an existing data field, for example, from text to number. To collect data in a different format, you must create a new data field.

  • Mobile numbers must be formatted as +447700900000, 447700900000, or 00447700900000 to be valid.

  • When searching for contacts by mobile number, ensure the number includes the correct country code. Improper formatting may prevent the contact from appearing in search results.

Edit a contact's data fields

  1. Go to Audience > Contacts.

  2. Find and select the contact you want to edit. You can use the Search field to locate the contact.

  3. Select the Data fields tab.

  4. There are two sets of data you can edit for a contact through the Single customer view. Select the relevant folder:

    • Personal details: Displays First name, Last name, Full name, Email, Mobile number, Gender, and Postcode. You can also add notes to the contact record here.

    • Data fields: Any custom data fields you have created.
Learn more in Create, edit and delete custom data fields.

  5. Find and edit the data in the field you want to change.

  6. Select SAVE.

Mobile number ID field

  • Dotdigital uses mobilenumberid as the default field for mobile numbers.

  • This field is a unique identifier, like email, and is not listed among custom data fields but appears during import mapping and in signup forms.

  • To collect mobile numbers for SMS, use the default mobilenumberid field. Do not create a custom field for this purpose.
