Integrate TikTok Audiences with Dotdigital

Automatically add and remove contacts from your TikTok Audiences using a Dotdigital list or segment.

You can use our integration to automate the addition and removal of contacts for TikTok Audiences, to help manage and streamline your retargeting efforts.

Select which ad account you want to sync, and use an existing audience or create a new custom one to sync to.

You can set up multiple audience syncs for your connected ad account.


Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • For TikTok to consider an audience valid, they must be able to match at least 1000 contacts within the group of contacts you are trying to sync. For this reason, the Dotdigital list or segment you select to sync must have a minimum of 2000 contacts, to decrease the chance of an audience becoming invalid.

  • Contact matching in TikTok can take 24-48 hours. Your audience isn’t available to advertise to until this process is complete.

  • You must have created the list or segment you want to sync before you can link it to an audience.

  • You can only link a single list or segment to a single audience. So, multiple lists or segments can’t be linked to the same audience, and multiple audiences can’t be synced to the same list or segment.

  • You must have access to a TikTok Business ad account.

  • You need the correct permissions in Dotdigital to access integrations.

Set up the integration

1. Create a TikTok Audience profile

  1. In Dotdigital, go to Connect > Integrations.

  2. Select Self-serve, then for TikTok Audience select ADD.

  3. Select NEW PROFILE, then select LOG IN TO TIKTOK.

  4. Enter the email address and password associated with your TikTok Business account, then select Log in.

  5. Expand the Ad account drop-down menu and select the account you want to connect.

  6. Expand the Status drop-down menu and select Enabled.

  7. Select SAVE.

2. Configure the sync settings

  1. Once you have created your profile, select the Audience sync settings tab.

  2. Select SYNC NEW AUDIENCE.

  3. To choose which contacts to sync from Dotdigital, select the radio button for List or Segment.

  4. Select either CHOOSE LIST or CHOOSE SEGMENT, then select the list or segment you want to sync.

  5. For TikTok Audience, select from:

    • Choose an existing
      Select CHOOSE AUDIENCE and then select the audience you want to sync to.

    • Create new
      Enter an Audience name.

  6. Select SAVE.

Your chosen list or segment now syncs to the TikTok Audience you selected. The sync updates every three hours to add or remove contacts from the audience based on the contacts present in the Dotdigital list or segment.


Manage lists using programs

To further automate your contact sync with TikTok, you can use a program in Dotdigital to manage adding contacts to, and removing them from, lists you have chosen to sync.

To manage the contacts in the Dotdigital list you can use the Add contact and Remove contact nodes in a program. Combined with a Decision or Multi-decision node, you can use any criteria you want, based on the data you hold about your contacts, to add or remove them from the list you are syncing to your TikTok audience.

Example

Each day, you want to check for contacts who have browsed a specific set of pages on your website in the last 24 hours, and add these contacts to a list that you sync to TikTok.

To do this, you can create a program which enrols contacts based on a segment. That segment checks webInsight data for visits to the pages you’re interested in.

You then use an Add contact node to add contacts who meet this criteria to the list you are using to sync to your TikTok Audience.

Similarly, you could create a program which identifies contacts who have purchased a particular product from you, and remove them from your synced list to prevent them seeing ads for a product they already own.

The flexibility of the program builder, combined with the wealth of data you can store about your contacts in Dotdigital, provides you with a huge amount of flexibility to manage list membership in this way.


Pending contacts

If the list or segment you sync from Dotdigital to TikTok contains fewer than 1000 matched contacts, the the TikTok Audience it’s linked to becomes invalid. Invalid audiences can no longer be used in ad groups.

TikTok attempts to match contacts based on IDs. For Dotdigital, possible IDs are email address and mobile number. You can sync contacts with one or both of these identifiers.

If a list or segment that you try to sync to TikTok has fewer than 2000 contacts in it, this increases the likelihood that TikTok won’t be able to match a sufficient number of contacts. To help protect your Audience from becoming invalid, we hold these contacts in a pending state until the list or segment reaches the required number of members.
